Foreword
As a teacher of energy and empowerment with a 28th generation lineage from Hawai’i, I have been sharing knowledge with tens of thousands of students since the 1990s. In the workshops that I conduct, I teach various techniques to help people become more empowered on their path. In some of our events, we teach communication skills and how to do specific release work for negative emotions and limiting beliefs. In our Huna workshop that we run on the Island of Hawai’i, we teach how to do energy work with others and what is referred to in Hawai’i as ho’omana (empowerment).
With my advanced Huna students, some of whom have been with me for well over a decade, I teach them to start with simplicity and pay attention to the moon. First, notice when you are more comfortable with your emotions based on the moon phase. Next, begin to notice what sign it is in starting with the elements. For example, when the moon is in a fiery sign like Aries or Leo, how do you feel? Make note of that and as you gain awareness, you gain empowerment.
Then, when my students are ready, we delve into the exploration of astrology.
I start with this explanation: Imagine for a moment you have a picture of you and the placement of all the planets and stars in the sky at the time of your birth. This can be considered a snapshot of how you are energetically hardwired. Now, imagine for a moment, based on the Law of Correspondence that how the stars and planets in the sky relate to each other was a picture of how your energy is naturally wired in your personal consciousness. That is astrology.
For example, as Pam explains: “The Sun, the central energy in the solar system, drives your vitality, growth, and life purpose in a masculine form.” Where the Sun is at in your chart and what sign it is in teaches you how and where you like to shine—it’s where you’re most comfortable and feel at home in expressing your unique talents and special gifts. Naturally, finding where you like to shine will enhance your ability to drive you forward into your purpose.
A further reason why astrology is so useful is that it provides insight into the journey of your soul. Just as Pam describes, “The Moon is the other ‘light’; it reflects your soul’s emotions, moods, reactions, instincts, and soul history in a feminine form.” When a person has an awareness of this, they gain a better understanding of their karmic patterns and lessons. Since we are all here to acquire new learnings and deeper lessons, and just as your purpose can be discovered in your chart, so can your soul’s karmic patterns over lifetimes.
Let’s start from the beginning to understand our purpose.
From the moment we as a species gained awareness, we looked up to the sun, moon and stars with wonder and awe. We marveled at their beauty and became increasingly curious as to what they mean and more importantly, what they represent to us as individuals.
Equally powerful is the drive for an individual to find their path and know their purpose. This is a subject that I have studied for the bulk of my life and after having taught tens of thousands of people, I have found that most individuals just want to know who they are. The students I see at my events want to gain insight as to why they are here and specifically they want to know who they are meant to be.
The problem is that our society, for the most part, teaches us how to discover who we are in a very backwards way.
Most people in this world, were taught to spend time focusing on having things as a means to bring happiness and joy into their lives; have the car, have the house, have the new gadget. And, while that may work for a while, most begin to wake up and wonder why the house, the car, or any of the material things didn’t create any lasting happiness.
The individuals that wake from that trance of collecting and having things realize that the goal in life might be more about figuring out what they’re meant to do with their lives. They sprint down different paths attempting to find one that fits. They explore different career paths, and different forms of personal growth or spirituality in an attempt to find out who they are. Unfortunately, our path is not about figuring out what to do, it is about finding deeper purpose and who we are meant to be.
That is because we are not human havings and we are not human doings – we are human beings.
There are several tools that you could use to discover who you are meant to be, where you are heading and what you are meant to do. And for me, astrology is one of the more powerful tools for discovering this.
For the most part, ancient cultures did not believe that the stars and planets in the sky did anything to them. People that studied astrology knew of the Law of Correspondence, which simply states that “as above, so below”. The two most visible objects in the sky, the sun and the moon, have a connection to the cycles we experience within our physiology as well as the cycles we go through over the course of our lifetime.
For example, in the Hawaiian culture it was believed that that moon represented an emotional cycle that we all progress through. At a full moon, emotions were “lit up” and exposed, as if a light were shining on them. During a new moon, things were darker and less emotional, and it seemed more a time to draw our energy inward. Some people have an easier time with a full moon, while others have an easier time with a new moon.
The word lunatic comes from the term lunar because early psychologists noticed that some people became crazier during a full moon. However, it is not that the moon does anything to you, rather it represents a cycle that you go through.
The well-known earlier psychologist, Carl Jung, would look at a patient’s astrological chart if he was having difficulty understanding how they interpreted their reality based on energy. Jung is someone who I have studied extensively in my career and one of the primary tools he utilized was astrology to not only understand how a person perceives reality, but also how they could connect with a deeper purpose.
For many years, Pam has been a guest educator at the advanced levels of my Huna workshop in Hawai’i, where students come to learn about the ancient wisdom of the Hawaiian culture. When it is time for my upper level students to embark on the path of astrology and understanding their own natal chart, there is only one person I trust.
Pam Gallagher is the most gifted astrologer I have ever met. This is because of her depth of knowledge, her 40 plus years in the field, and most importantly for me, because of her ability to teach from the heart and help people understand the value of being able to take action in life based on their astrological chart.
I entrust Pam with the higher-level astrological teachings with my students, many who have been with me for well over 20 years. I call upon her expertise when looking at the charts of my personal clients, and I look to her for guidance as a father in how best to approach my children based on their charts. After reading Becoming Your Sun Sign, I am in awe of how she has simplified the concepts and put it into a format that I have never seen before.
The way Pam wrote this book and the way she presents the information makes other astrology books pale in comparison. When I read it, my first thought was, “Finally! Someone did it the way people need to learn it!”
As you navigate Becoming Your Sun Sign, The Journey from the Moon to the Sun, your purpose and your soul’s journey will become more evident and, regardless of your background in astrology, you will walk away with a greater depth of knowledge of who you are meant to be and how you are meant to shine.
